Canadian Maple Coins’ Design

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Maple Leaf coin in 1979, making it the second-oldest coin in the precious metals marketplace after the South African Krugerrand.

Following suit, the Silver Maple Leaf coin made its debut in 1988. Both coins feature the same iconic design, showcasing the striking sugar maple leaf, Canada’s most common species of tree.

The design incorporates security features introduced in 2014, including radical lines on both sides of the coin. A notable addition is the privy mark on the bottom right of the maple leaf. This features a ’24’ inscription visible only under magnification.

Both silver and gold coins bear the inscription ‘CANADA’ along the top and bottom borders, indicating the coin’s purity and weight.
